Boise, Idaho • Authorities say two deputies responding to a 911 call at a southwest Idaho home shot and killed a 54-year-old man who pointed a handgun at them.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office says a man called dispatchers just before 11 p.m. Thursday and told them someone was in the house and hung up.

Dispatchers called back and the man answered but put the phone down and left the line open.

Deputies arrived and found the door ajar and yelled inside, then went in to investigate. The deputies heard someone upstairs and yelled for him to come down. Police say the man came down pointing a handgun and both deputies opened fire. The man died at the scene.

The shooting is under investigation.
