A man who served prison time in Utah for a car-jacking episode has been arrested in Seattle in connection with the murder of a woman whose head and other body parts were found Saturday in a homeowner's recycling bin.

John Robert Charlton, 37, was arrested Monday by Seattle police in the slaying of Ingrid Lyne, 40, of Renton, a nurse at a medical center, according to The Seattle Times.

On Tuesday, Charlton was ordered held in lieu of $2 million bail in connection with Lyne's death. Court documents say Charlton acknowledged to detectives that he had been dating Lyne for about a month, but that on Friday he became so intoxicated he can't recall how he got to her house after they attended a Mariners game, "or what transpired when they got there," The Times reported.

Meantime, investigators launched an extensive search for the remainder of Lyne's body.

In Utah, Charlton was charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery in connection with a June 24, 2006, car-jacking in the parking lot of a Layton Barnes & Noble bookstore.

Layton police Lt. Travis Lyman said Tuesday that according to a police report, a woman and her baby were in the back seat of a van while her husband was in the store when Charlton ordered the woman out and stole the vehicle.

An attempt-to-locate was broadcast and a Sunset police officer decided to park on Interstate 15 to watch for the van, Lyman said.

As the officer was watching, he spotted the vehicle and followed it north to Riverdale, and then to the parking lot of a Target store, where Charlton was arrested, Lyman said.

Charlton pleaded guilty in 2nd District Court to a lesser second-degree felony count of attempted aggravated robbery and was sentenced to one to 15 years at the Utah State Prison, according to court records.

He served about 21 months before the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole terminated his sentence and released him without supervision on June 24, 2008, a parole board spokesman said.

At the time of his arrest, Charlton gave an address in Inkom, Idaho.

The Seattle Times reported that Charlton's criminal history also includes convictions for misdemeanor assault in King County, Washington in 1997, felony theft in Montana in 2009, and misdemeanor battery in a 2009 case in Idaho, according to court records. He also was found guilty of possession of marijuana in 1997, with the charge deferred if he completed alcohol school and other conditions.
