A man who told Riverdale police he shot and killed his girlfriend in self-defense has been questioned but as of Tuesday had not been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.

The man, identified as 41-year-old Scott Sandlin, called 911 call at 10:52 p.m. on Sunday. He told dispatchers that the 30-year-old woman had come at him with a knife, and in fear for his life, he shot her, Riverdale police Lt. Casey Warren stated.

He repeated the claim to officers who arrived to find the woman, dead from multiple gunshot wounds, inside a house the two shared near 1100 West and 4400 South, along with her 8-year-old daughter.

Warren confirmed the deceased was Jenna Manuel, who recently was going by the last name of Spinya. She worked at the Funk 'n Dive Bar & Grill in nearby Ogden.

Spinya's daughter reportedly was in the care of other family members.

Police reported they had been called to the home before about disturbances, but clarified on Tuesday that none of those calls had involved alleged domestic violence.

Warren said that detectives had completed multiple interviews, but the investigation remained open pending results from the Medical Examiner's Office and the state Crime Lab.

" Riverdale Police Department is working closely with the Weber County Attorney's Office. Upon receiving all of the evidence and findings, the case will be reviewed with the Weber County Attorney's Office and screened for criminal charges. At this point in the investigation no criminal charges have been filed," Warren said.

A check of court records showed no past criminal convictions for Sandlin in Utah.
