There is a new king atop the state's largest classification for the first time this season. After Lone Peak — which has claimed the top spot in the 5A classification every single week — was upset by Herriman, and Copper Hills — which has been ranked No. 2 all year — also fell in upset fashion to West Jordan, Bingham shot up the charts and assumed the throne.

The Miners have won 10 straight games, most by double figures, but the first game for the new No. 1 is the third and (potentially) last meeting between region rival Copper Hills on Tuesday. The Grizzlies won the first game to win the Elite 8 Tournament championship on a neutral floor, while Bingham came out on top in the second meeting on its home court. Tuesday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Copper Hills.

LP shines on ESPN

After falling to the Mustangs, Lone Peak showcased the state of Utah on ESPNU on Friday, beating the seventh-ranked team from New Jersey, St. Joseph, 68-61. It was the first-ever nationally televised high school basketball contest for a game originating within the state.

Eaton out for the year

Maple Mountain guard Liz Eaton suffered a season-ending ACL injury on Tuesday. At the time of the injury, Eaton was leading the state in scoring. The Golden Eagles are currently ranked No. 5 in the 4A classification, but obviously losing Eaton is a tremendous blow.
