A Milford man was killed and a female passenger seriously injured after their SUV collided with a cow late Thursday on State Road 257.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said the crash occurred at 11:45 p.m. 38 miles north of Milford, when 37-year-old Oscar Estrada's 1998 Subaru Forester struck the animal. Estrada, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained fatal chest and head injuries from the steering wheel and windshield.

An unidentified adult female was in serious condition when taken to the hospital, but a 6-year-old girl in the back seat escaped serious injury, despite being unrestrained.

The cow also was killed in the crash.

The accident remained under investigation.
