Cleveland • Federal prosecutors say a suburban Cleveland detective punched and kicked a suspect, drove him to a cemetery, wrapped a seatbelt around his neck and threatened to put him in the ground.
Westlake police detective Robert Toth was indicted in June. The indictment accused Toth of using unreasonable force and obstruction but didn't specify the exact allegations.
But documents filed Tuesday by federal prosecutors in Cleveland revealed the specific accusations.
Toth has pleaded not guilty. His attorney didn't immediately return a message seeking comment that was left at his office Wednesday.
Toth is on unpaid leave from the department.
The encounter happened on April 24, 2014. The officers were interviewing the suspect in a firearms investigation.
