Every year around this time, I enter contests pitting my work against that of my talented colleagues.

I'm not always the best judge of what constitutes my best cartoons from the previous year, so we've put together a gallery of 31 cartoons allowing Tribune readers to have their say.

This informal poll will help me narrow my choices to the 15 to 20 cartoons that the contests require. Keep in mind that the judges in these contests don't always "get" Utah-centered issues and humor.

Pat Bagley was a 2014 finalist for a Pultizer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. To mark this year's centennial of the prizes, the Pulitzer Prize Board has launched the Pulitzer Campfires Initiative, aimed at celebrating the values of the Pulitzers and igniting community conversations.

The Utah Humanities Council and its partners, The Salt Lake Tribune, KCPW in Salt Lake City and Utah Public Radio in Logan, are among groups awarded $1.5 million in Campfire grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Ford Foundation, Carnegie Corporation of New York, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and the Pulitzer Prize Board.

As part of the Tribune's Campfire events, Bagley will talk on Feb. 3 about his Pulitzer recognition and the role of political cartooning at a public event at The Leonardo, at 209 E. 500 South. A gallery of his picks for his 2015 Pultizer entry will be on display this month in The Leonardo's main floor Tanner Atrium.
