A woman's body was found Thursday afternoon in the Halfway Wash stream in St. George, according to police.
Two hikers spotted the woman's body about 1 p.m. in the wash near Sunset Boulevard and 1700 West, said St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain.
Officers have identified the woman but are not releasing her name pending family notifications, Despain said.
Investigators do not know how she died or how long her body has been in the wash, but her body does not appear to have been in the water for a long time, Despain said.
"We're trying to do what we can to figure out exactly what happened," he said.
The woman was clothed in "normal" attire for walking in the wash, but investigators do not know whether her death was an accident, a suicide, a medical problem, or whether foul play was involved, Despain said.
He declined to release the woman's age.
