One man was killed and another hospitalized after a head-on collision Thursday night on a Box Elder County stretch of State Road 89.

The Utah Highway Patrol said that the crash occurred at 5:57 p.m. near 2500 South in Perry, when a northbound, green 1994 Ford Ranger drifted into the path of a southbound white 2014 Toyota Yaris.

The roadway was slick with a mix of rain and snow at the time, but investigators suspected that the Ranger's driver, a 59-year-old Box Elder County man, suffered a medical emergency just prior to the crash. That driver was transported to a hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the Yaris, Lance D. Holman, 45, of Perry, was pronounced dead at the scene, UHP reported.

Troopers reported that both men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.

Both northbound and southbound lanes were closed for about four hours as the wreckage was cleared and evidence gathered.
