As is so often the case, there is a Utahn on the upcoming season of "The Bachelor."

As is always the case, ABC is giving us minimal information about the contestants on this faux reality/romance show — first name, age, job and hometown. I can at least give you a last name: Shushanna Mkrtchyan, 27, mathematician, Salt Lake City.

Apparently,. Mkrtchyan immigrated from Russia.

There aren't that many mathematicians on reality shows, let alone shows in which women compete for the affections of a man. In this case, that man is Ben Higgins, who will be "The Bachelor" when the 20th cycle of that show premieres on Monday, Jan. 4, on ABC/Ch. 4.

Mkrtchyan is one of 28 bachelorettes on the show this season, including a pair of twins (each helpfully described as "twin" by ABC) and a "chicken enthusiast" named Tiara from Redmond, Wash.

Really. I couldn't make that up if I tried.
