Two people died Friday in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 6, just south of Helper in Carbon County.

At about 12:50 p.m. Friday, a westbound sedan crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic at about mile marker 235 and collided with an eastbound pickup truck, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The driver of the sedan — Carolyn J. O'Hearon, 38, of Helper — was killed. The passenger in the pickup — Charlene L. Oviatt, 61, of Huntington — also died.

The driver of the pickup suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Castleview Hospital, UHP said.

The crash shut down the highway in both directions, although traffic was proceeding through the area via alternating one-way traffic, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
