The Utah Transit Authority Board has approved contributing some of the land it owns at its South Jordan FrontRunner station to help create a new "transit-oriented development" there.

The development with Thackeray Garn Co. and Millrock Capital envisions two six-story office buildings, an eight-story hotel and what UTA documents say are "improvements to transit-critical infrastructure."

The station is located at 10351 South Jordan Gateway, east of the Jordan River Parkway and Mulligans Golf and Games.

The UTA Board said it will contribute $5.1 million worth of land for what it says will be a $7.9 million parking garage, a $1 million capital account and a portion of development revenues.

UTA spokesman Remi Barron said exact details of financial agreements are still being negotiated, and are not available yet for public release.

The UTA in recent years has used surplus land to make deals for several "transit-oriented developments," which it says will expand use of rail projects by locating offices, retail and homes or apartments nearby so patrons will not need to drive.
