Salt Lake City • Former Utah lawmaker Jackie Biskupski will find out Tuesday if she's won the race for Salt Lake City mayor, and become the city's first openly gay mayor.

The final results in a tight race between Biskupski and incumbent Ralph Becker will be unveiled at an afternoon election canvass event.

The last results released publicly showed Biskupski had a 1,450-vote lead over Becker with about 5,000 ballots left to be counted.

A victory for Biskupski would mark another landmark moment for the LGBT movement in a conservative state with a history of hostility toward gays and lesbians.

Becker has served on a White House climate change task force and was hoping to become the first to win a third term as Salt Lake City mayor since 1983.
