South Salt Lake police say they have arrested a 21-year-old bank robbery suspect — and his 13-year-old getaway driver.

That's right: a 13-year-old boy allegedly was behind the wheel that sped away from the US Bank branch at 2714 S. 300 West at about 6 p.m. on Tuesday, said SSLPD spokesman Gary Keller.

The 21-year-old suspect allegedly approached the counter and told a clerk, "Give me cash, and no one will get hurt." The employee complied, and the robber fled the bank and jumped into the waiting white Ford Taurus.

A short time later, South Salt Lake and West Valley City police located the vehicle in a parking lot at 3528 S. Redwood Road. When the two suspects exited the car, officers closed in and took both into custody.

Inside the car, police allegedly found a mask, clothing and the cash from the bank.

The adult suspect was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of second-degree felony robbery — the same charge used to book the boy into a juvenile detention facility.
