Utah ski resorts were celebrating good snow totals from the first major storm of the winter Tuesday and were gearing up to try to get open soon.

Over the last 48 hours, Alta reported 19 inches, Snowbird 17 and Eagle Point in southern Utah 14 inches. The season is scheduled to open in nine days with most resorts hoping to be operating by Thanksgiving.

Local weather forecaster Evan Thayer said that weather patterns look as if they could bring more snow early next week with two or three systems affecting the region. The first one on Monday looks weaker but the hope is it would open the door for a strong storm on its heels in the middle of next week.
