Millcreek • Unified police searched a Millcreek mansion after witnesses reported hearing gunshots Friday afternoon, but they did not find signs of violence.

At about 2:40 p.m., dispatchers received two calls about gunshots in the vicinity of 1775 E. Millbrook Drive (3460 South). One of the callers also mentioned hearing an argument before the shots rang out, said police Lt. Lex Bell.

Witnesses also thought they heard a woman groan and a car speed off, said Detective Ken Hansen.

Officers arrived at the home, which used to be a mansion but has since been subdivided into six apartments. After no one responded to a police bullhorn, police called out a SWAT team, "because of the size of the place and potential that someone fired some rounds," Bell said.

The SWAT team waited for a search warrant before shooting gas cannisters into the mansion about 5:40 p.m., he said. The team sent a robot into the home before officers entered, Bell added.

Unified police did not find anyone inside, nor did they find obvious signs of injuries or a confrontation, Bell said.

Police are trying to contact the three people who reportedly live in the apartment in question.
