Defending champion Olympus took a narrow 9-8 lead over Region 6 rival Skyline on Thursday after the first two rounds of the Class 4A girls' tennis championships at Liberty Park.

The Titans' Sabrina Longson advanced to the No. 2 singles semifinals with two straight-set wins.

Olympus' Emma Jewell stayed alive in No. 3 singles while the Titans top two doubles teams of Zaylie Collins and Elly Lloyd and Mia Nebeker and Kate Longson advanced to Saturday's semifinals.

Skyline stayed in the mix.

The Eagles were led by No. 1 singles player Veronica Polokova, who joined Timpview's Megan Austin, Bonneville's Hannah Jones and Alta's Emilee Astle in the semifinals.

Skyline's Anna Findley stayed alive in No. 2 singles while the Eagles' Phoebe Little won her first two matches in No. 3 singles. The Eagles' Carley Williams and Hayle Boddington advanced to the No. 2 doubles semifinals as well.

The Class 3A girls' tournament will begin Friday at Liberty Park.

Team and individual titles for Class 5A, 4A and 3A will be decided Saturday at Liberty Park.
