A Saratoga Springs woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to a reduced charge of automobile homicide in connection with the 2013 death of a passenger.

Dawn Lynn Grochowski, 54, was initially charged with the second-degree felony automobile homicide, but pleaded guilty to a lesser third-degree felony count of automobile homicide on Tuesday.

Grochowski now faces up to five years in prison when she is sentenced Dec. 1 by 4th District Judge Derek Pullan.

Police have said Grochowski was driving drunk at about 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 25, 2013, when she failed to negotiate a hairpin turn west of Utah Lake. Police said her 1991 Jeep Wrangler rolled 50 feet down the hill and landed on its top, dislodging the rear seat and injuring the backseat occupants.

One of Grochowski's passenger, Trevor Nielsen, 36, died of his injuries a day later, police said.

Charging documents say Grochowski admitted to drinking "2 Mickey's" two hours apart.

Grochowski's blood alcohol level was 0.12 at the time of the crash, charges state. Utah's legal limit is 0.08.
