Police on Thursday chased a vehicle they thought might be connected to a West Valley City credit union robbery — a chase that ended with the suspect's vehicle crashing.

The Cyprus Credit Union at 3432 W. 3500 South was robbed about 1:45 p.m. Thursday by a man who showed a handgun and demanded money, according to Roxeanne Vainuku, spokeswoman for the West Valley City Police Department. The man received an unknown amount of cash and left on foot, she said.

Hours later, an officer spotted a car at 3650 S. 3200 West that matched the description of a vehicle seen leaving the area at the time of the robbery, Vainuku said. The driver took off south on 3200 West, lost control and crashed in a yard at about 4050 South, she said.

According to Vainuku, the four occupants in the vehicle fled and two male juveniles were caught after a search with police dogs. Two other people are still being sought.

Vainuku said police believe there is a strong possibility the vehicle is linked to the robbery but they had not confirmed a connection as of late Thursday.

The suspect in the robbery is described as a Hispanic male in his late teens or early 20s, about 5-foot-8 and 170 pounds. He was wearing a red long-sleeve button-up shirt and a black baseball cap with a Cincinnati Reds logo.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or who has information about the robbery is asked to call West Valley City police at 801-840-4000.
