In news that was tipped weeks ago by Utah athletic director Chris Hill, the Holy War series between Utah and BYU has been officially extended to 2020, per both schools' Twitter accounts.

The exact dates will not be known for some time, according to Utah senior associate athletics director Liz Abel, due to TV considerations.

The teams will resume their series after a two-season hiatus next year, when BYU visits Salt Lake City on Sept. 10.

Utah has said it doesn't want to play BYU late in the season, when it's in the thick of the Pac-12 schedule, and the Cougars appear to have accommodated Utah by moving a scheduled 2019 opener against Wisconsin up to 2017.

Prior to last season, the series had only been interrupted by World War II since it began in 1922.

Utah leads the series 57-34-4.

Utah also has games scheduled against Northern Illinois and Idaho State for 2019, while BYU now has nine games scheduled for 2019 and eight for 2020.
