Vesco Racing's Turbinator II was on display on Wednesday along with other and speed cars at Totem's restaurant, 538 S. Redwood Road, during a news conference to educate the public on the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Save the Salt Coalition doesn't want high-speed racing in Utah to become history.

A low level of salt on the famed salt flats has led to the cancellation of four major land-speed races in 2015. And whether the salt is disappearing because of weather or nearby mining, the coalition — working with the Utah Alliance — wants it back.

Beyond meeting with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, which oversees the Bonneville Salt Flats, the groups hope to educate the public on the flats' importance in Utah. Sleek land-speed racing cars were on display in the parking lot of Totem's before a presentation, "100 years of Bonneville Racing History from the Racers' Perspective."
