Unified Police detectives confirmed Wednesday that a 26-year-old Magna woman, whose body was found two days after a man was shot to death just blocks away, had also died from gunshot wounds.

UPD Lt. Lex Bell also said that Shelli Marie Brown's Aug. 19 slaying was now being investigated as connected to the killing of 26-year-old Stevan Ryan Chambers, whose body was found in the middle of a Magna street near 2880 South and 9100 West.

Both Chambers and Brown, whose remains were discovered in Copper Community Park, "were associated with the same people and hung out in the same social circle," Bell stated, but declined to elaborate.

He said details on the number of times Brown was shot, and the location of her wounds, were not being released due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. Bell also declined to release the caliber of the bullet, saying only that "indications are [that it came from] a handgun."

UPD also has withheld details about Chambers' wounds.

Investigators are awaiting the results of ballistics and other forensic tests, which they expect will come back this week.

Bell said that UPD continues to beef up patrol presence in the area in the wake of the shootings. "[We want] to reassure the citizens of Magna that we are doing everything we can to further this investigation and bring those responsible to justice," he said.

Detectives have made two arrests, but those were for outstanding, unrelated warrants of people initially sought for questioning as acquaintances of the victims. Dozens of other people have been interviewed, but no suspects identified.

Anyone with information about either or both of the slayings is asked to contact UPD at 801-743-7000.
