The Labor Day weekend is often one of the busiest travel times of the year for families and this year is no exception. AAA is estimating about 35 million travelers nationwide will be out this weekend, the busiest in the past seven years.

That's why it is somewhat surprising to see a recent report from Utah State Parks listing parks which still have camping reservations available for next weekend.

As of Monday morning, there were campsites available at Antelope Island, Bear Lake, Deer Creek, East Canyon, Fremont Indian, Green River, Huntington, Jordanelle, Kodachrome Basin., Otter Creek, Palisade, Quail Creek, Red Fleet, Rockport, Scofield, Snow Canyon, Starvation, Steinaker, Utah Lake, Wasatch Mountain, Willard Bay and Yuba State Parks.

State parks say reservations are recommended and must be made a minimum of two days in advance of your arrival date. Reservations can be made online at state parks.utah.gov, or by calling 800-322-3770.

All non-reserved sites will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

As for boating, ramps at most state parks remain open, though many reservoir levels are dropping. Deer Creek is 72 percent full, East Canyon 60, Huntiongton 75, Hyrum 65, Millsite 85, Otter Creek 35, Red Fleet 65, Scofield 30, Starvation 84, Steinaker 55, Utah Lake 45 (marina only has two feet of water), and Yuba 13. Ramps are closed at Willard Bay, which is less than 50- percent full, and at Piute State Park. Great Salt Lake boating conditions are also questionable.
