A Utah man died Saturday after allegedly being assaulted in Herriman by his girlfriend's brother.

Blake Burningham, 24, had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend that turned into a physical assault, Unified Police Department Detective Jared Richardson said in a news release. The girlfriend called her brother, who lives in another city, and he came to pick her up at her Herriman home, in the 5900 block of West Moon Shadow Drive.

The brother, 24-year-old Cole Pedersen, returned with his sister sometime later and got into a fight with Burningham outside the home, the release says. Burningham was hit several times in the face and fell in the road near the driveway, according to investigators.

Officers were dispatched to the scene a little before 1 a.m. and a neighbor was performing CPR on Burningham when they arrived, the release says. Burningham was flown by medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition, and Pedersen was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.

Police confirmed Burningham died shortly before 6 p.m., and that investigators would be screening different charges against Pedersen.
