A former Kane County corrections officer who engaged in sex with an underaged boy has been sentenced to 120 days in jail.

Tyler C. Fox, 29, of Kanab, pleaded guilty in June in 6th District Court to one count of third-degree felony unlawful sexual activity with a minor, along with a misdemeanor charge of unlawful sexual activity with a 16- or 17-year-old. Five other similar charges were dismissed.

The felony is punishable by up to five years in prison, but Judge Marvin Bagley ordered jail time instead.

Fox contacted a 15-year-old boy through Facebook and text messages, according to charges. He discussed same-sex attractions with the victim and arranged a sexual encounter in September 2014.

Prosecutors say the relationship was discovered when the boy's father picked up his son's cellphone, turned it on and allegedly discovered explicit text messages between Fox and the youth. The father called police after he impersonated his son in a text conversation and Fox allegedly sent him a photo of his genitals, charges state.
