A teen was shot Tuesday in what Salt Lake City police say may be a gang-related shooting.

Officers said the 16-year-old and another teenager were standing outside a home about 7 p.m. on Ivy Circle in northwest Salt Lake City when a car pulled up in the cul de sac.

One of the occupants of the car asked if the two boys "banged" — that is, were in a gang, said Salt Lake City police Lt. Dave Cracroft. The boys said no, and a person inside the car fired "several" shots at the boys, striking the victim in the shoulder.

The car, described as a red, newer-model sedan, traveled to Riverside Drive and sped to the north.

The victims said they did not know the people inside the car, whom they described as four Latino males, ages 16 to 17.

The teen was listed in serious condition on Wednesday.

Anyone with information may call police at 801-799-3000.
