Juab Wasps

The Hurry-Up

Juab finished 11-2 overall, 5-0 in league play, and lost to Judge Memorial 63-14 in the Class 3A championship in 2014.

OFFENSE

Juab was one of the more prolific offensive teams last year, but Nick Robins, one of Utah's premier prep quarterbacks, is now playing for SUU. That means new quarterback Ryker Osborne, last year's junior varsity starter, will have to grow up quickly. Returning fullback Shawn Nelson and a good receiving corps should help. The Wasps are a spread team that runs out of multiple formations, including double-slots and trips.

DEFENSE

Juab is flexible on defense, using either a 5-3 or 3-4 formation depending on who the Wasps are playing. Ashton Seely, who was a star at middle linebacker, will be a key, as will four-year starting lineman Nick Wohlforth and Jackson Alred. Payton Bowring, the coach's son, should anchor the backfield along with Diego Carmona.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Coach Mike Bowring has created high expectations in Nephi, and this year should be no different. Expect the state 3A runners-up to recover from their drubbing by Judge in the title game and make a state title run again this season.

BIG SHOES

Every team needs a "tough guy," and Ashton Seely fills that role for Juab. He will anchor the defense at middle linebacker and will likely play tackle on offense, giving the Wasps toughness.
