San Juan Broncos

When it comes to depth, San Juan coach Monty Lee is quite aware of the limitations of coaching at a small school.

"We don't go two or three deep," Lee said.

The best that coaches can hope for is that the new crop of replacements can round into form quickly. Lee thinks that the potential is there for the Broncos.

Offensively, San Juan has several key returners at the skill positions, although the O-line will need to be shored up. Defensively, the line will almost be entirely new, as both defensive ends and one tackle graduated.

"We have the potential to be as good as we've been. It depends on how good they want to be," said Lee, whose team won the South region and advanced to the 2A semifinals one year ago.

"Our goal every year is to be playing on the last day of the season," the coach added. "We've got a good team. It'll take time to develop the kids to that level."

Assignment • Region 2A South

Last year • 10-1, 6-0 in league play; lost to Summit Academy in semifinals

Key returners • Bronz Eldredge (6-foot-1, 210 pounds) is the feature running back for San Juan and will also be the anchor for the linebacking corps. One of the leading passers last year in 2A, Payton Palmer, is also back for his senior season. Max Slavens, another senior, will be a key receiving target for Palmer. Jon Brewer (5-10, 230) is a stalwart on both the offensive and defensive line for the Broncs.

Player to watch • Kavika Su'e Su'e is a junior running back and middle linebacker who will see much more extensive playing time his junior season.

Biggest hole • The offensive line has gaps to be filled and the Broncos' top two receivers have graduated.

Need to know • The Broncos were an offensive juggernaut in the regular season, averaging 45 points, before scoring only six total (including a 6-5 win over Millard) in two playoff games.
