Another judge rules against family of Ute tribal member

Another judge has ruled against the parents of a Ute tribal member on claims their son was killed by authorities following a police chase in 2007.

The latest case was decided by Judge Marian Blank Horn, who dismissed the lawsuit on July 30 by saying that the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, which hears Indian tribe lawsuits against the U.S., did not have proper jurisdiction.

The parents of Todd Murray have maintained that he was shot in the head by police after a car chase on the Uintah and Ouray Reservation in northeastern Utah.

But in 2014, a U.S. District Court judge ruled against the family, affirming that Murray died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The family is appealing that decision and also filed a lawsuit in Ute Tribal Court.
