West Valley City police had one teenage boy in custody, but still were looking for the 14-year-old driver who escaped after repeatedly ramming a stolen car into an officer's cruiser.

WVCPD spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said one other suspect, age unknown, was believed to have fled with the driver early Thursday morning near 3900 South and 2600 West.

About 2 a.m., the officer spotted the suspect vehicle traveling in an erratic manner and pulled in behind when it went into a parking lot. As the officer got out to approach the vehicle, the driver put the car into reverse and crashed into the cruiser several times before speeding away.

The officer got back behind the wheel of his damaged but still operable cruiser and chased the suspects for about a minute before their vehicle's engine died. The youths bailed out and ran as additional WVCPD units arrived.

Aided by police dogs, officers soon took a 16-year-old boy into custody and also located a firearm near the car. The driver and another suspect eluded capture.
