That spell of record- or near record-setting temperatures is gone for now in Utah; now comes the thunder, lightning and rain.

The National Weather Service predicts the mercury — flirting with triple digits for the past couple weeks along the Wasatch Front — will dip into the low- to mid-80s on Wednesday, the same temperatures forecast for Tuesday. The isolated morning and afternoon rain showers and thunderstorms predicted Tuesday also were on the meteorological menu for Wednesday.

Those wet midweek forecasts also applied to southern Utah, though daytime highs there were expected to range a bit higher, into the mid-90s.

The Utah Division of Air Quality had some good news, too: the air out there will be cleaner in the days ahead. Only Utah and Weber counties had "yellow," or compromised air quality through the midweek; the remainder of the state was in the "green," or healthy category.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website listed mold, grass, chenopods and cattail pollen levels as "high," while plantain and Linden allergens were at "moderate" as of Tuesday.
