Orange County's San Clemente High continues to prove fertile ground for future Utes, with tight end Cole Fotheringham tweeting his intent to join teammate Tucker Scott on the hill.
The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Fotheringham is rated three stars by Rivals, which lists offers from BYU, Utah State, Boise State and Nevada.
According to head coach Jaime Ortiz, Fotheringham caught 55 passes for 645 yards and nine touchdowns last year for the 12-2 Tritons, led by USC commit and longtime Utah target Sam Darnold.
Fotheringham is the son of a former Snow College and University of the Pacific quarterback (Chad Fotheringham) and was a part-time signal caller himself until about three or four games into the 2014 season, Ortiz said, when it became apparent that Darnold wasn't going to come off the field very often.
Ortiz said he's interested to see what Fotheringham can do as a senior, dedicated solely to the tight end position.
Fotheringham is eminently coachable, Ortiz said, and served as junior class president. He plans to serve an LDS mission before enrolling at the U.
San Clemente is, of course, the alma mater of Utah senior quarterback Travis Wilson, and Ortiz has heaped praise in years since on the approach of area recruiter and Utah co-offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick.
Fotheringham visited Utah's campus during spring ball with Ortiz and Scott, the son of former Utah and NFL lineman Lance, who committed soon after the visit.
And the Utes may not be done at San Clemente, having extended an offer to Darnold's heir apparent, 2017 quarterback Jack Sears.
