Utah received a commitment from, as far as we know, the first member of its 2017 class on Sunday, when 6-foot-3 Provo High wideout Ty Jones took coaches up on an offer extended at June's Ute Shoot 7-on-7 passing tournament.

Jones also received an offer at BYU's junior day.

Provo assistant Jay Puafisi described Jones as a receiver with height, speed and hands, and a young man who sets a positive example for his teammates. Jones works at a Subway to help ease the financial burden on his mother, Puafisi said.

"I think this is going to be a breakout year for him. He's very reliable, and if he's not open, it's because teams had to double-team him."

We'll update this story as we learn more, so check back.

Another Sunday night tidbit • Defensive tackle Pasoni Tasini is enrolled and eligible to play this season for the Utes after signing and failing to qualify in 2014.

Tasini was a team captain at Snow in 2013, recording 44 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Last listed at 6-foot-2, 260 pounds, Tasini starred in football, basketball and track and field in high school, and also lettered for the volleyball team.

It goes without saying that the Utes have a deep rotation at defensive tackle — they always seem to — but Tasini was once thought to be a potential immediate contributor.

Below are links to the recruits that the Tribune has reported on in the 2016 class.
