Rounding out a series of executive shakeups at the Utah State Office of Education, Ogden School District administrator Rich Nye was confirmed on Friday as the new associate state superintendent for data, assessment and accountability.

Nye is expected to start July 1. He replaces Judy Park, who was dismissed by the board and State Superintendent Brad Smith in May.

Nye currently oversees testing and technology for the Ogden School District, where he worked under Smith prior to Smith's appointment last fall as state superintendent.

"We are fortunate to have Rich Nye join us at the state office," Smith said in a prepared statement. "He has done some really good work in Ogden, and we look forward to putting those skills to work for the whole state."

With Nye's appointment, the top five posts in Utah's public education system have turned over in the course of one year.

Following Smith's selection by the board, Angela Stallings was hired to fill a vacant associate superintendent position, and Park and Bruce Williams were dismissed and replaced by Nye and Associate Superintendent Scott Jones, respectively.

And Sydnee Dickson, a veteran of the Utah State Office of Education, was selected as Smith's deputy superintendent.

On Friday, board members also confirmed Darin Brush as the new executive director of the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation, which is overseen by the Utah Board of Education.

"Great things are happening in Utah's workforce rehabilitation," Smith said. "We look forward to even better results with Darin in place."
