Got old paint congealing in cans?

Salt Lake County residents can rid their homes of hazardous waste every Thursday until September at a series of collection events starting this week at Sugar House Park's Mt. Olympus Pavilion. The events run from 7 to 10 a.m. and are free.

If it's poisonous, flammable, corrosive or toxic, the Salt Lake County Health Department will likely take it as long as it's household waste. Examples include: yard-care chemicals, pesticides, fuels, paints, batteries, fluorescent light tubes, used oil, antifreeze and cleaning products. Also accepted are all electronics, such as computers, cellphones, televisions, stereo equipment, printers and fax machines.

The schedule is as follows:

First Thursdays (June 4, July 2 and Aug. 6) at Sugar House Park.

Second Thursdays (June 11, July 9, and Aug. 13) at Sandy City Public Works, 8775 S. 700 West.

Third Thursdays (June 18, July 16, and Aug. 20) at Holladay City Center, 4626 S. 2300 East.

Fourth Thursdays (June 25, July 23, and Aug. 27) at Draper City Park's northwest parking lot, 1300 E. 12500 South.

And finally, Sept. 15 at West Jordan City Hall, 8000 S. Redwood Road.

Business waste, explosives, radioactive materials and old tires will not be accepted.

Other than at the Sugar House event, pharmaceuticals will not be accepted during the Thursday collections. Old drugs will be collected by police officials every third Saturday of the month at these Salt Lake Smith's stores from 8 a.m. to noon:

June 20 • 455 S. 500 East.

July 18 • 1174 W. 600 North.

Aug. 15 • 455 S. 500 East.

Electronics also can be dropped off at the Saturday events.
