Draper police on Friday identified a body found near the Ghost Falls Trail in Corner Canyon as that of a 15-year-old student at Corner Canyon High School.

Police Sgt. Chad Carpenter said it appeared the boy had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Tribune's policy generally is to not identify suicide victims.

Hikers discovered the teen's body on Thursday.

Grief counselors were dispatched to the high school on Friday to aid students and staff.

Carpenter urged anyone with thoughts of harming themselves to immediately seek help, such as counseling provided by the University of Utah's Community Crisis Intervention hotline at 801-587-3000.

Additionally, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is always available for anyone contemplating suicide at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
