Iron County authorities are investigating a body found May 22 at a location south of Summit, which is about five miles southwest of Parowan.

The body, that of a man in the advanced stages of decomposition, was sent to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, the Iron County Sheriff's Office reported Thursday.

The man has not been positively identified and an exact cause of death is still pending, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Detectives are working with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in obtaining a positive identity and possible reasons why the person may have ended up in Iron County, according to the news release.

More information will be released as the investigation continues, the sheriff's office said.
