Standing rainwater on northbound Interstate 15 near Alpine just south of the Point of the Mountain has brought traffic to a crawl on Thursday afternoon.

The Utah Department of Transportation reported standing water in all northbound traffic lanes.

The freeway remained open, but UDOT reported traffic was backed up to around Lehi.

UDOT reported that a 2 p.m. thunderstorm in the area dumped a lot of rain, which pooled at a natural low point on the interstate, according to KUTV 2. There are currently no drainage points because of construction, but UDOT had pumps in the area anticipating the possibility of this happening.

UDOT anticipated the water would be cleared by about 5:30 p.m.
