An Orem man was flown to the hospital Saturday after crashing on an off-road dirt bike.

The 21-year-old man was driving the motorcycle on Soldiers Pass Road when he lost control of the vehicle on loose gravel. He crashed on the dirt road about 4:40 p.m. Saturday, about a mile west of State Route 68, according to a Utah County Sheriff's Office news release.

He was wearing a helmet, but witnesses say it came off during the crash.

"The driver was experiencing severe back pain and his friends put him in a car and drove him to SR-68," where the deputies met them, the release reads.

After the man was stabilized, he was flown to Mountain View Hospital in serious condition, according to the sheriff's office.
