Tooele County deputies are investigating a Lehi man's death near Grantsville Reservoir.

Campers found the body of Larry Eldon Ray, 57, at his campsite by the reservoir about 4 p.m. Saturday. A medical examiner has yet to determine how he died.

"When we arrived, we found him deceased and nobody was around other than the witnesses," said Tooele County Sheriff's Lt. Travis Scharmann. The witnesses said they saw a male nearby, who had allegedly gotten into Ray's vehicle, then left on foot.

Officers closed off the area and spent several hours searching for the man at the reservoir, which is just southwest of Grantsville, but could not find him. However, a motorist saw him walking along the Mormon Trail and gave him a ride into Grantsville, then later told police about the encounter after authorities issued a news release regarding the search.

Deputies met up with the male about 1 a.m. Sunday and booked him into the Tooele County Jail under suspicion of witness tampering and vehicle burglary. However, investigators have yet to determine whether he has any connection to Ray or his death, Scharmann said.
