Granger • In what is looking like it could be a tight race for the Region 2 boys' soccer championship this season, nothing is more important than a road victory.

So that is why Cottonwood coach Alan Reed and his team seemed to be smiling wider than normal after a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at previously unbeaten Granger on a windy Tuesday afternoon.

"It's a huge win," said Reed, praising the Lancers tradition and attitude. "We were down early, but we found a way to come back to score those two goals."

The big one came from Omar Villanueva with under 2 minutes left to play.

Reed had moved the dynamic player to left wing. Villanueva took a pass from Frank Debry which cleared the Lancer defenders, glanced at where the Granger goalie was playing and got off a quick shot for the victory.

"It was a great win," said Villanueva. "This is my senior and this is a rivalry. They are a great school with great players."

The Lancers, who dropped to 1-1 in league play and 6-1-1 overall with the loss, looked like the dominant team in the first half and finally got on the board late on a nice goal from about 20 yards out on the right side by Uriel Heredia.

Cottonwood took advantage of a free kick early in the second half to tie it.

Villanueva kicked the ball hard past a wall of Granger defenders and it was deflected. The Colts' Matt Orme was there to blast in the game-tying goal.

"That was a battle," said Granger coach Hyrum Okeson.

"Cottonwood put away their chances, and we didn't."
