South Salt Lake police have arrested a man on suspicion of shooting and killing a man in December in what police at the time described as an ambush.

Officers apprehended Amar Miljkovic, 24, about 3 p.m. Thursday for allegedly killing Orlando J. Roybal on Dec. 4 during a suspected drug deal. Miljkovic was booked into Salt Lake County Jail under suspicion of second-degree felony homicide and aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.

"In the beginning, information was slow coming in," said South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller. "… [Information eventually] came in from witnesses at the scene and other people we were looking at. It all concluded with the arrest of Amar."

Shortly after the shooting in December, Keller described Roybal as having been "ambushed."

Roybal, 32, was a passenger in a car near 600 E. Leland Ave. when a male suddenly opened the driver-side door, stole items from the vehicle and shot Roybal multiple times, according to the police. Keller could not immediately say what was allegedly stolen.

Roybal was taken by medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center, where he died. The driver was not hurt.

Police arrested Miljkovic, who lives in Midvale, without incident.

He has not been formally charged in 3rd District Court yet.

Several days after Roybal's death, police also arrested a South Jordan woman, Whitney Marie Connor, who allegedly facilitated the meeting. A probable cause statement alleges Connor wanted to buy narcotics and arranged to meet with a seller on a dark street.

Connor, who was arrested under suspicion of homicide as well, also has not been formally charged. Keller could not comment on whether the case against Connor was dropped.
