Northern Utah is in store for a pleasant weekend, with sunny skies and highs in the 50s and maybe even 60, the National Weather Service predicts.

Overnight lows are expected to drop to the 30s and 20s on Saturday and Sunday.

In southern Utah, the highs are expected to reach the upper 60s in St. George and Zion National Park on Saturday and around 70 on Sunday. Lows should be in the upper 30s or around 40, the weather service says.

The southwest part of the state, including Beaver and Cedar City, will see the thermometer climb to the mid to upper 50s and drop to the lower 20s, according to the weather service. Kanab and Escalante, in south central Utah will be slightly warmer over the weekend, with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s and lows around 30.

An avalanche advisory is in effect for the mountains of the Wasatch plateau through the weekend. The Forest Service Utah Avalanche Center says human-triggered avalanches of 2- to 3-feet deep are likely and that people should avoid being on or underneath steep terrain.

The advisory does not include ski area or highways where avalanche control is normally done.
