Unified Police were investigating on Sunday a fatal shooting that occurred at a party in Millcreek.

Investigators identified the victim as Modibo Diallo, 33, of Murray.

At 1:59 a.m. Sunday, police were called to a party at a home in the 1500 East block of 3350 South, according to a Unified Police Department news release.

During the party a verbal argument began between two people downstairs, partygoers heard gunshots and the suspect fled on foot. He was described as a black male wearing a black hoodie; he was armed with a handgun, the UPD release said. Police later identified him as 29-year-old Ahmed Ali.

Diallo was transported in critical condition to a local hospital where he passed away a short time later, police said.

Then, at 2:18 a.m., UPD received a call of a suspicious male matching the suspect description in the 1700 East block of Millcreek Circle. The suspect was knocking on the front door of a residence, prompting the residents to exit the home.

The UPD SWAT Team was called to the scene and located Ali inside the garage. He was transported to a local hospital in fair condition with injuries sustained at the party, UPD said.

Police said Ali did not have a gun with him when he was arrested.

"Detectives have been searching the area, and have searched it thoroughly, but have been unable to locate the firearm," UPD said in a release. "We want the community to be aware of this information for their safety. We would ask that if anyone locates the firearm to leave it in place [and] call police immediately."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the UPD at 801-743-7000 or 385-468-9614.
