Former Utah House Speaker Becky Lockhart will be remembered at a public memorial in the Capitol Rotunda on Thursday.

A funeral will follow Friday.

Lockhart, who served 16 years in the Legislature and was the first female speaker of the Utah House, died at her Provo home Saturday from a rare neurological disorder — Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. She was 46.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the state Capitol's Rotunda. A visitation with family is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. that evening at the LDS chapel at 1625 S. Slate Canyon Drive in Provo, according to a news release.

Lockhart's funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the LDS stake center at 300 N. 900 East in Provo.

Thursday's memorial is the event intended for the general public, but the Lockhart family will not shut the doors to the Friday funeral if people want to attend that as well, said family spokesman Joe Pyrah.

In lieu of flowers, Lockhart's family asks that donations be directed to the Rebecca D. Lockhart Endowed Scholarship for students at the Center for Constitutional Studies at Utah Valley University. Donations can be made online at https://www.donate.supportuvu.org/lockhart.
