A TRAX light rail train was involved in a chain-reaction crash with several vehicles early Monday morning in southcentral Salt Lake City.

A Salt Lake City police dispatcher said a 911 call reporting the accident, which may have involved three vehicles in addition to the train, came in at 6:41 a.m. from the area of 200 W. 800 South.

Utah Transit Authority officials reported that the tracks had been cleared and trains had resumed traveling through the area by 7:35 a.m.

SLCPD Lt. Mike Ross said the accident began when a black Hyundai, eastbound on 800 South, ran a red light and was struck by the train. The Hyundai then spun into another vehicle that had stopped for the light, and then slammed into a nearby parked car.

The driver of the Hyundai escaped with minor injuries. She was not transported to the hospital, but was to be cited with running the light, Ross said.

No other injuries were reported to other drivers or passengers or crew on the TRAX train.
