A 27-year-old Spanish Fork man was caught in a child-sex sting operation conducted jointly by the Utah County Sheriff's Office and the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said investigators arrested the man on Thursday night when he arrived at an unspecified location in the county where he thought he was going the meet, and have sex with a 13-year-old girl.

The "girl," however, was a sheriff's detective who had begun communication with the suspect in October through an anonymous texting app and later email.

"During these communications [the suspect] described sexual acts he would perform with the [girl]," Cannon said.

Finally, the two arranged a rendezvous, and when the suspect arrived he was arrested without incident by detectives.

The man was booked into the Utah County jail on suspicion of several second-degree felonies, ranging from attempted sodomy on a child, attempted object rape of a child and attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child to enticing or luring a minor by Internet or text.

The suspect remained behind bars without bail on Friday.
