A 49-year-old Box Elder County woman died Thursday after her pickup truck slid on a patch of ice on Interstate 15 and rolled.

Tracy Hoskins, of Bothwell, was driving south on I-15 when her Dodge pickup hit a patch of ice and spun, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry.

The truck went off the highway near mile marker 377 — between Tremonton and Elwood — and rolled.

Hoskins, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died instantly, Perry said.

To highlight the difference a seatbelt makes, Perry noted that there was a rollover at about the same time 15 miles away, in which the seat belted driver suffered relatively minor injuries.

The crashes were among 19 that troopers in Box Elder County troopers had responded to as of 4 p.m. Thursday, as snow pelted the northern Utah county. The snow was turning to water on the highway, then freezing over.

Perry urged drivers to drive slower than normal freeway speeds during such inclement conditions.
