For Enterprise, the Class 2A state volleyball championship was not exactly boldly going where it had never been.

On the other hand, the whole scenario — the only match taking place on the four courts at Utah Valley University, player introductions with the lights dimmed, etc. — was something entirely new for Delta.

So chalk one up for the old pros.

Enterprise captured its second straight state title with a 25-17, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21 over Delta on Thursday night.

"It just feels so great. All of our work come together for the ultimate thing — winning state," Wolves senior standout Riley Lyman said.

As was the case a year ago, it was Lyman who was the key for the Enterprise attack. The Idaho State-bound middle hitter slammed 33 kills in addition to a couple of blocks.

Though Lyman and Enterprise coach Brian Phelps both said she tired in the third set, the senior went out with a bang in the fourth, tomahawk-chopping balls over the top of Delta blockers.

"She's going to do amazing in college, and it's a blessing she's on our team," Enterprise senior Darbye Moyle said. "This is the best feeling in the whole entire world. Nothing compares to this feeling right now."

Moyle also added seven kills and got the clinching kill in the first set, as well as starting the second set with another put-away.

But Delta, which had only one senior, rebounded in the third set with a more versatile attack on the front row. Junior Sidney Springer had 14 kills, while fellow junior outside Brooklyn Henrie led the Rabbits offense with 19 put-aways. Freshman Baylee Loertscher also added four kills and a block and kicked off a big 9-0 run in the third with a power shot from the right side.

But the match reverted to form, at least as far as recent Enterprise history was concerned, in the fourth.

Trailing 12-10, the Wolved peeled off six straight points as Lyman pounded a couple of kills and Madison Laub recorded a pair of serving aces. Later in the set, Enterprise scored a 9-2 run with Lyman accounting for four kills and a block during the stretch that brought the Wolves to match point.

"I've got my whole team coming back, so we're very excited," Delta coach Deb Jenkins said. "This was our first time with the big court. I think that had a lot to do with it; maybe not the hoopla, but all the waiting around before the match started."

Jenkins' crew made one last desperate attempt at a comeback as Delta scored five straight points with Enterprise sitting at 24 in the fourth.

The last point belonged to Lyman, but not in her usual way. The match winner came when the Wolves' star let a Delta serve sail out of bounds.

"A point's a point. A win's a win," Lyman said. "In the end, we're state champions." —
