Bagshot, England • Heading into this weekend's game, the Detroit Lions have the No. 1 defense in the NFL.

Make that the world.

Already overseas and practicing, the Lions (5-2) will face the Atlanta Falcons (2-5) on Sunday in the second of three regular-season games this year at Wembley Stadium in London.

"We're not afraid to go anywhere, any place and go out there and play and execute what we need to get done," Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh said Wednesday. "It comes from our coach. The attitude that he brings with us, understanding that it doesn't make a difference whether we're in London, or at home, or have to go to Atlanta."

Detroit leads the league in total defense, ranking second in stopping the rush and seventh in pass defense.

Around the league

Bills • Bills rookie receiver Sammy Watkins would like to thank New England cornerback Darrelle Revis for teaching him a thing or two about getting open.

A week after being limited to a season-low two catches for 27 yards against the Patriots, Watkins responded by putting on a show in picking apart the Minnesota Vikings secondary on Sunday. Watkins was not only fast, but nearly unstoppable in the 17-16 win over Minnesota. He finished with a season-best nine catches for 122 yards, and two touchdowns, including a 2-yarder with 1 second left.

Cardinals • Andre Ellington wasn't in a walking boot, and that's not been the case most Wednesdays this season.

Since he injured his left foot just before the first game, the Cardinals have had to nurse the dynamic young running back through a week of practice then turn him loose on Sundays. His foot heavily taped, Ellington has not missed a game, and his latest was his best yet.

In Arizona's 24-13 win over Oakland last Sunday, he carried 24 times for 88 yards and caught six passes for 72 yards, becoming the fifth player in franchise history with at least 80 yards rushing and 70 yards receiving in the same game.

Chargers • San Diego Chargers cornerback Brandon Flowers has been ruled out of Thursday's game at Denver with a concussion.

Flowers was hurt in a 23-20 home loss to Kansas City on Sunday.

The Chargers' secondary isn't in great shape heading into the matchup against record-setting quarterback Peyton Manning. Backup cornerbacks Jason Verrett (shoulder) and Steve Williams (groin) are listed as questionable.

Rams • St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher has embraced the concept of a running back by committee.

Zac Stacy just missed 1,000 yards rushing as a rookie last year, but wasn't in the mix last week because he was hurt and Benny Cunningham and rookie Tre Mason played well in a victory over Seattle.

Stacy was nursing a calf injury, so he was limited to one snap. —
